From Texas we went to New Mexico. Easy to say, isn't it? But the truth is that Texas is the only state which you cannot cross from sunrise to sunset, so our plan was like this: we keep driving west, if we see something interesting we stop and when we want to go to sleep we'll look for a reststop by the highway.
Pacific War Museum, Fredericksburg |
On our way we go by little town called Fredericksburg. All we know about it is that it's in wine area and there's a toy store that we found a leaflet for at the Welcome Center on Louisiana-Texas state line. Really courious what store is it that its fame went so far we discover a charming German town straight from spaghetti western with nice little shops and restaurants. There is also a Museum of Pacific War. Smart, Germans know how divert your attention and focus just on one part of history. Good for them!

We spend quite a few hours there, in a famous store we buy kids some books (by the way, if you're reading us from Poland, have you seen anywhere these indistructible books?). Then we head west through Texan wilderness passing little towns with gas stations every once in a long while. We reach Interstate 10 by the evening and we end our day at the truck stop. We sleep well all night long.
Fredericksburg Main Street |
Driving through Texas is really nice. Everyone can find a landscape they like. We passed hills and vast plains, vinyards and deserts, drilling rigs and oil wells, table mountains and high mountain ranges, as well as hundreds of miles of no civilization. We hardly noticed when we entered New Mexico. The only difference was that we finally got our cell coverage… Aufwiedersehen Texas, it was really nice experience.
